Currently working on a new series of x7 double sided A5 leaflets and here is a good example of the kind of thing we do because we think it looks better than the easier option of not doing it.
The initial photo of the Foden steam engine is photographed (1) and firstly we improved the colour and take out anything that doesn’t look right – the tyres were a bit mucky, we didn’t need to do much on the rear tyres as the proposed layout meant they would not be seen (2). We wanted to drop the background away completely so (3) we drew around the ‘middle’ parts that needed to go – highlighted in magenta. (4) Next we drew around the exterior edge of the engine enabling the whole background to be dropped out – again for the demo, it’s in magenta. (5) The engine has a small glass window so we cut this out separately and added a semi-transparent layer so the glass would look like glass in the final layout. We also added a shadow, so the half ton engine wasn’t floating. The whole process from initial photo to be at the stage where it could be imported into the leaflet took 1.5 hours. (6) Finally,
